Close to half a million American women pledged to wear pearls on inauguration day in honor of their first female vice president, Kamala Harris.
The gem is a signature of Harris, a member of Howard University's Alpha Kappa Alpha "Twenty Pearls" sorority.
Harris wore a strand when she graduated, was sworn into Congress - and again on inauguration day.
Thanks to her, pearls, the darling of Stepford wives, have made a comeback. And it's easy to see why. Quietly elegant, with a subtle glow rather than look-at-me sparkle, they can take you anywhere from the boardroom to the ballroom.
