Sexy numbers

Weekend Glitz | Elaine Chung and Cara Chen 3 Jul 2020

Maxime Simoens' first collection since arriving at Paule Ka last year was something of a departure from the French brand's ladylike tailoring. Manhattan's endless avenues and never ending energy in the TV series Sex and the City inspired him while designing the spring/summer 2020 collection.

While the brand's staple shift dresses and simple tailoring are usually more Charlotte, the designer's youthful touches add a bit of fun. Amping up the sex appeal are zips on the trapeze skirts and skintight knit sweaters with fishnet-like details, creating looks that fit all characters - a trio of cocktail dresses in pink and orange leopard sports a full skirt and pockets for Charlotte, a sultry front zip for Samantha and a high neck for Carrie.

Ruffles give a touch of casual elegance. Based on the corset look that became popular because of the TV series, the white dress in drilled cotton with straps at the waist and a ruffled cut paired with wide leg satin-poplin pants shows sex appeal. The same detail can be seen in the sleeveless dress in satin-back crepe and a floral print twill skirt.

The house's signature bow knot has been reinterpreted and magnified on the stretch-ottoman bag.

The evening dress is sexier than ever. Highly tactile materials such as glitter, silk satin and satin crepe are given a feminine touch with the addition of ruffles and draping.
