Shirtless man 'with a gun' sparks alarmTop News | Staff reporter 22 Jul 2021
A shirtless man who was spotted holding a gun sparked an alarm in a Kwai Chung block.
The man turned out to be an off-duty constable living on the 24th floor resident of Block 2 of Kwai Yung Court disciplined services quarter on Shek Tau Street.
He later said he took out the gun - which turned out to be an air gun - out of his flat to check it out.
Earlier, a neighbor - through the CCTV installed outside his unit - saw the man go to the stairwell while holding "a gun-like item." The neighbor reported it to a security guard, who in turn called police.
Police from the Counter Terrorism Response Unit arrived at the scene shortly in helmets, bulletproof vests and guns.
Officers from the Kwai Chung District Crime Unit were also called to the scene.
Officers found the air gun in the stairwell and subsequently located the constable in his unit.
The constable said he was checking whether the air gun worked in the stairwell as he did not want to frighten his family.
Police thought the case did not involve a criminal element and did not arrest the constable.
On July 15, a man living in a Sham Shui Po housing estate was arrested after making a false report about a man with a gun. The 37-year-old called police regarding a gun-wielding man wandering around Fu Wong House in Fu Cheong Estate. Shortly afterwards officers from the Counter Terrorism Response Unit arrived. They reviewed CCTV footage but it was in vain.
Officers then questioned the man, who failed to provide sufficient information and present his ID card. He was arrested for wasteful employment of police officers's time.
