A female passenger was arrested for arming herself with a pair of sharp scissors on a Tsuen Wan-bound train, frightening other passengers.

The woman, Long, 32, was sitting by herself holding the scissors on her lap. She was held for having an offensive weapon.

At 7 pm on Tuesday, the woman was first spotted clutching the 17-centimeter scissors while walking toward Central MTR station.

Ten minutes later, she was sitting on the train still wielding the scissors with the blades facing outward, MTR Corp said.

Other passengers then alerted MTR staff, who tried to persuade Long to put the scissors back into her bag, but to no avail.

As the train stopped at Prince Edward station, police arrived and told the woman to put down the scissors. She would not.

The woman, who appeared calm, was arrested.

Police said the woman was taken to Mong Kok police station for questioning and the case is being followed up.
