A taxi driver was yesterday arrested for dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm after knocking down a tourist from Shanghai making a crossing when the pedestrian light was green.

The accident happened at 8.14am on Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, where the 64-year-old tourist, Fan, was crossing.

He was hit by the taxi, driven by 50-year-old Chan, who was turning right from Haiphong Road.

Fan was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital unconscious with a severe head injury. He remained in a critical condition last night.

Chan is suspected of making an illegal turn into Nathan Road.

The intersection only allows vehicles to go straight or turn left.

Chan passed a breathalyzer test.

Fan was here with his 30-year-old daughter, who got a call from officers, and other relatives.

He had left the hotel for an early-morning walk.
