Bilingual Early Years Programme

Since opening in 1991, CDNIS has continuously adapted to stay ahead of the curve and its new Early Years Bilingual Programme will provide CDNIS students with a unique dual-language cross-cultural learning experience.

Starting in August 2022, parents will have a choice between two dual-language programmes in which to enrol their child. Both the International and Bilingual streams will guide a child’s language and cultural fluency in a nurturing but rigorous learning environment. The Bilingual Programme will immerse students in Mandarin for an entire day and then in English for an entire day, while the International Programme will continue to offer a curriculum in English with Mandarin offered 20% of the time. Plans are in place to expand the programme into the school’s Preparatory grade level the following year, and potentially through grades 1-5.

Transition Years

CDNIS’ middle school programme, introduced two years ago, sees students in Grades 6-8 continue their journey of multi-disciplinary enquiry while beginning their introduction to subject-specific areas of development. The CDNIS Transition Years Programme supports the unique developmental and learning needs of young adolescent learners. Specialized teachers intentionally focus on motivating and inspiring students in a way that positively fosters and channels their natural curiosity and energy. Transition years students benefit from a nurturing learning environment where they are given the opportunity to connect with their teachers on a more personal level.

Dual Diploma

CDNIS students graduate with two distinct and highly recognized diplomas: the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP), and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). CDNIS is the only school outside of Canada where students graduate with both diplomas, providing not only a balanced education for students, but a seamless transition to post-secondary institutions in Canada and around the world.

An IB education is one of the most demanding and challenging programmes available, and IB students at CDNIS develop strong academic discipline and skills, and balanced social and emotional attributes, as they gain confidence in thinking independently and taking control of their own learning. The OSSD and IBDP programmes are highly complementary and CDNIS’ teachers ensure their classroom instruction covers all subject matter of the two curricula without doubling the student’s workload. Personalized timetables, an abundance of course options, and a caring, internationally-minded learning environment contribute to CDNIS students’ exceptional academic results and their acceptance into the world’s most selective and competitive post-secondary institutions.
