A new wave of moves approved in Britain's latest Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules came into effect on April 5. Here are the most notable ones.
For those considering settling through the Skilled Worker route, your salary must equal or exceed 25,600 (HK$276,216) a year, with an hourly rate of 10.10. It must also meet the going rate for the occupation code - you can check your job type's figures on the Home Office website.
There are newly included occupations in the Shortage Occupation List, which has seen a rise in demand for health-care workers, senior care workers and laboratory technicians, in particular.
Meanwhile, where a dependent partner was not in Britain while on a UK visa before January 11, 2018, that phase of absence will not count in the 180-day limit when analyzing the dependent's continuous residence for Indefinite Leave to Remain, provided the main applicant is on a Tier 1, 2 or 5 visa, or the Global Talent, Start Up or Innovator route.
Last but not least, Britain has launched a new Graduate route for international students who wish to work or look for work in the UK. This unsponsored route is available to students who have successfully completed an eligible course at UK bachelor's degree-level or above and last left the country on a Tier 4 student visa. Do note, however, that this is not a path to settlement.
