To mark the 15th anniversary of the inscription of the ‘Historic Centre of Macao’ on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) of the Macao SAR government will hold a series of celebratory activities in July.

To enable citizens and visitors to partake of celebrations on this meaningful occasion, a total of 28 activities in 6 series will be organized, including a thematic festival, the ‘World Heritage Open Day’, the ‘Heritage City Tours - Guided Tours and Illustration Workshop’, ‘Fun Sharing Cultural Heritage’ lectures, a story-writing competition and a WeChat game.

Thematic Festival

Unique experience on World Heritage Open Day

As part of the exhilarating activities of ‘World Heritage Open Day’, the IC will arrange five visits for the public to have an experience at World Heritage sites that are rarely open to the public, such as enjoying a Portuguese-style afternoon tea at the Sir Robert Ho Tung Library; experiencing the panoramic view of the Ruins of St Paul’s from a special angle; taking part in a treasure hunt at Mandarin’s House; visiting the inner hall and upper floor gallery of the Senado Library; and climbing to the top of the Guia Lighthouse to enjoy an impressive view of Macao.

Heritage City Tours to capture the beauty of the Historic Centre

The ‘Heritage City Tours - Guided Tours and Illustration Workshop’ features five elaborate itineraries. The city tours will be led by professional guides, who will take participants on a guided visit to different World Heritage buildings and tell the stories behind. The activity will also feature illustrators who will show participants how to create a travel diary, so that they can capture unforgettable moments of their tours and record everything in their unique travel diaries. The activity features two routes designed for families.

Fun for all

The series of celebratory activities also includes a Story-Writing Competition named ‘Memorable Moments of World Heritage’; ‘Fun Sharing Cultural Heritage’ lectures held in schools and districts; ‘World Heritage Modeling Workshop’; and ‘I am a Cultural Heritage Expert’, a WeChat Game which gives participants a chance to win prizes with their knowledge of cultural heritage.

Also held in July are other special activities with free admission. To safeguard the health of participants, IC will deploy appropriate measures according to the anti-epidemic guidelines of the Health Bureau of Macao, such as increased cleaning and sanitization at activity venues. The activities may be adjusted based on the pandemic situation.
