An extra special Easter at Macao!

Travel | 15 Apr 2019

This April, Macao has in store a variety of thrilling events for you, including the 7th Macao International Travel Expo Industry and more.

7th Macao International Travel Expo (MITE)

The annual MITE is back again and bigger than ever! This year’s edition will be held from 26-28 April at Halls D-E, Cotai Expo of the Venetian Macao, and is much larger in scale with the expo area doubling from 11,000 to 22,000 square metres, accommodating 800 standard booths in total compared to 550 booths last year.

There will be seven highlights. The ‘Pavilion in Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region’ encompasses a total of seven chapters, demonstrating Macao’s continuous endeavor to enrich the diversity of tourism resources and products under the successful implementation of the policy of ‘One Country, Two Systems’ and also highlighting Macao’s colorful image and the progress of the city’s transformation into a world centre of tourism and leisure.

‘Foster tourism partnerships under the Belt and Road Initiative’ bring together about 130 tourism entities from 35 countries along the Belt and Road to explore and deepen cooperation on diversified tourism products along the Belt and Road; ‘Develop multi-destination itineraries in the Greater Bay Area’ provides the latest tourism information about multi-destination travel in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area; while ‘Exchange platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries’ deepens cultural and tourism exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking countries by presenting products from Portuguese-speaking countries and introducing tourist spots, resources and products in various destinations.

Moving on, the ‘Explore gastronomy and sustainable development’ zone will hold an educational session in partnership with National Geographic to explore how Macao is leading the shift towards a more sustainable and creative food industry across Asia; ‘Strengthen interaction and integration of culture and tourism’ encompasses a variety of interactive cultural and creative experiences to extend the added value of cultural tourism via organic integration of culture, handicrafts, gastronomy and creativity; and last but not least, ‘Establish a pre-scheduled appointment system to facilitate business matching’ introduces a pre-scheduled appointment system to enable precise matching and business appointments scheduled between exhibitors and buyers in advance, leading to more effective outcomes. There will also be a series of cultural and creative workshops such as the DIY Portuguese Tile Painting Workshop and Vegan Jelly Sculpture Workshop for visitors to create unique souvenirs of their own to bring home!
