Women have their branded handbags while men go crazy for the latest in speakers. So savvy fashion houses have banded together with professional audio brands to come up with the ultimate home accessory: branded speakers.

The latest on the market is the wireless Louis Vuitton Horizon Light Up speaker (HK$22,300), which joins other high-end audio products under the fashion label.

Challenging perceptions of how objects should look and feel, the speaker takes on a unique form inspired by the Toupie (Spinning Top) handbag. When at home and not in use, it's an objet d'art, but when switched on, it comes alive in a burst of sound, light and movement.

Its unconventional shape offers many acoustic benefits. When sitting on its dock, the sound is played at 360 degrees, but by placing the speaker on its side, music can be sent in a specific direction. Connected via Bluetooth, the speaker is also compatible with Apple AirPlay 2 and Qplay via Wi-Fi.

Another French fashion house, Hermes, has also introduced its own portable speaker, created in collaboration with a French acoustics specialist. Clad in bullcalf leather, the speaker (HK$183,000) is made up of a main dock and a portable satellite speaker. Each can be used independently or paired for immersive surround sound.

Leather craftsmanship and professional sound also come together in the limited-edition Berluti and Bang & Olufsen collection. Six of the Danish audio brand's products (from HK$3,258) have been covered in Berluti's hand-patinaed Venezia leather, patinated by hand.

And finally, German technology meets Japanese street style in the Montblanc X Maison Kitsune MB01 smart headphones (HK$5,800). Compatible with smartphones, the wireless over-the-ear device is clad in Montblanc blue leather with Maison Kitsune's fox logo on the band.
