A ruptured 300mm saltwater pipe supplying toilet flushing water to Happy Valley disrupted traffic in Causeway Bay on Monday morning.
The Water Supplies Department (WSD) received reports of the leak on Leighton Road around 9am, prompting temporary lane closures along Wong Nai Chung Road near Sports Road for emergency repairs.
Authorities confirmed the pipe served Happy Valley's non-potable water system. Tram services toward Happy Valley remained unaffected during the incident.
Repair crews completed fixes by 2.30pm, restoring supply, with one affected traffic lane reopening by 6.30pm as road resurfacing continued.
The Transport Department noted partial westbound lane closures persisted near Wong Nai Chung Road as of 6.40pm, though earlier traffic diversions were lifted.
Citybus routes 8X, 19P and cross-harbor route 117 implemented temporary detours during the disruption. The WSD apologized for inconveniences while pledging to complete remaining roadworks promptly.
