A woman ordered to be detained at the Tai Lam Centre for Women was found to have ingested pellets containing dangerous drugs in an attempt to smuggle the drugs into the correctional facility.
The Correctional Services Department said the female inmate was remanded on charges of drug trafficking on February 18.
Following an X-ray body scan conducted by correctional officers, it was revealed that she had ingested drugs before being remanded. Consequently, she was isolated and closely monitored.
The department said the female inmate excreted a drug pellet weighing approximately 12 grams on February 21, and another three pellets totaling 38 grams on March 1.
“She further discharged a pack of the suspected dangerous drug, which was wrapped in a plastic sheet and weighed about 14 grams, at 7.30am today,” according to a department statement.
A spokesman said the department takes every measure to stop the introduction of dangerous drugs or unauthorised articles into correctional institutions in order to maintain good order and discipline, and a drug-free environment for all persons in custody.
