A test run of live broadcasting of court proceedings started today at a Court of Final Appeal hearing.
Individuals who wish to watch the live stream are required to agree to specific terms and conditions, including a prohibition on unauthorized audio or video recording.
The live broadcasting incorporates a computerized queuing system to arrange viewers in sequence.
The pilot scheme of live streaming today involved a case about a homosexual woman who appealed against the Legal Aid Department's withdrawal of her legal aid application for a judicial review of same-sex partner rights.
Another Court of Final Appeal case set for next Tuesday (Jan 16) has been identified to launch another trial run of live broadcasting of court proceedings.
The judiciary announced last year to start the live broadcasting of selected judicial proceedings, stating that the plan will enhance the transparency of court procedures while open justice is the fundamental principle of maintaining public confidence in the judicial system and upholding the rule of law.
