Pei Ho Street Market in Sham Shui Po will be closed early on Friday for deep cleaning after an Omicron case had visited the area.
The Covid patient is the husband of a 43-year-old woman, who authorities said could be an Omicron super-spreader, as he infected 16 others at a Kwai Chung residential building.
The couple had been to the building to scavenge discarded goods and sold the items they found on Nam Cheong Street.
A government statement wrote that the street market will be closed at 7pm today for deep cleaning and disinfection to safeguard the health and safety of market stall tenants and the public.
A Food and Environmental Hygiene Department spokesperson said staff will thoroughly clean and disinfect communal areas and facilities in the market and carry out deep cleaning work in the vicinity of Pei Ho Street Municipal Services Building and nearby streets, including Pei Ho Street, Tai Nan Street, Ki Lung Street, and Kweilin Street.
In addition, the department’s Kowloon License Issuing Office located at 4/F of the Pei Ho Street Municipal Services Building has suspended service as of 2pm today, and public services will resume on January 24.
