Signal No 8 unlikely, tropical depression moving away

Winds in Hong Kong are not expected to strengthen significantly and the chance of issuing the gale or storm signal, No. 8 will be relatively low, the Hong Kong Observatory said.

The strong wind signal, No 3 isued at 8:40pm will remain in force for some time. 

At 10:00 p.m., the tropical depression over the central and northern parts of the South China Sea was estimated to be about 520 km south-southwest of Hong Kong and is forecast to move west-northwest at about 18 km per hour towards the vicinity of Hainan Island to Beibu Wan.

The tropical depression will maintain a distance of 500 kilometers or above from Hong Kong tonight and tomorrow and gradually move away.
