China urges US to respect market rules after 93.5pc preliminary anti-dumping duty on graphite

Beijing has urged Washington to uphold market economy principles after the US Department of Commerce issued a preliminary decision to impose a 93.5 percent anti-dumping duty on Chinese imports of anode-grade graphite, citing unfair subsidies.

When asked about the move at a regular press briefing on Friday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian advised reporters to refer to the relevant domestic authorities for details. 

He reiterated that China-US economic and trade ties are mutually beneficial and called on the United States to “genuinely respect market rules” to maintain stable and healthy bilateral trade relations.
