A man jumped to his death at Minhang Tianjie Mall in Shanghai on April 23, landing on a female shopper on the floor below.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday evening, saw a man in a red shirt climb over the railing and jump where he landed on a woman below. The woman was relatively unhurt, but the man allegedly died on impact.
An eyewitness at the scene reported hearing the man shout from a high place before seeing him climb the railing and jump.
The incident happened around 5:40 pm and quickly attracted the attention of mall staff, who reported the incident to police and called for medical assistance.
Despite the mall's claim that it did not know about the incident, authorities have confirmed that it occurred and that they had mobilized officers to handle it.
It has been reported that no suicide note or other communication from the man has been found. As of now, the reasons for the man's actions are unknown.
The incident has drawn attention nationwide, with many expressing condolences for the victim and their family.
