Hong Kong foil fencers Edgar Cheung Ka-long and Ryan Choi Chun-yin made their way to the round of 16 in the men's foil event, chasing the team’s first Olympic fencing medals in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Cheung steadily racked up points during his round of 32 match against Frenchman Mertine, ending three points ahead at 15-12.
Meanwhile, Choi managed to come back from a 0-4 score against his opponent Haaster from Canada, and progress into the round of 16 at 15-10.
However, their teammates Cheung Siu-lun ended at the top 64 after losing just one point to Germany fencer Sanita at 14-15.
