Hong Kong's male fencer Cheung Ka-long is into the finals of the individual foil event, securing Hong Kong team’s first medal at the Tokyo Games.

In the semi-finals on Monday, Cheung beat his Czech opponent Choupenitch Alexander 15-10.

The 24-year-old will be back on the piste tonight at 8.10pm, facing Italy’s Daniele Gorozzo, 2016 Olympic champion of the event.

Cheung, a former junior world champion, is currently ranked 19th in the world.

He is also the first-ever fencer to make it into the semi-finals. Him strolling into the finals means he will also be the first in Hong Kong to get a medal in the sport.
