U.S. President-elect Joe Biden is set to name a veteran foreign policy expert, Kurt Campbell, to serve in the newly created role of Asia tsar, the Financial Times said on Wednesday.

Biden will soon announce his pick, who also served as the top state department official for Asia during the Obama administration, the paper said, citing three people familiar with the move, Reuters said.

Campbell was assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific Affairs in the Obama administration. He is an  architect of the "pivot", the administration's effort to move the center of gravity of American foreign policy to the Asia-Pacific.

He has also been a key interlocutor with China and was  involved in efforts to address tensions in the East China Sea and South China Sea.-Reuters/The Standard
