How do the leading vaccine candidates compare?
Oxford/AstraZeneca
It is up to 90 percent effective under one treatment regimen and 62 percent effective under another - the average efficiency is 70 percent
It costs £3 a dose and can be stored in a fridge at temperatures between 2C to 8C
The UK has ordered 100 million doses, with 4 million of these likely to arrive next month if approved by the UK regulator
Pfizer/ BioNTech
Trials showed the jab from German company BioNTech is 95 percent effective
It costs £15 and has to be stored in freezing temperatures of -70C to maintain optimal efficacy
The UK has bought 40 million doses - enough for 20 million people or about a third of the UK population
Moderna
The US jab is 94.5 percent effective, trial results have shown
It is the most expensive at £28 per jab and lasts for up to 30 days in household fridges, at room temperature for up to 12 hours, and remains stable at -20C for up to six months
The UK has purchased five million doses, to be delivered by spring.
