HK could request South Korea to extradite suspects over anthem error, Regina Ip says
Local | 15 Nov 2022 11:27 amExecutive Council convenor Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee said Hong Kong could request South Korea to extradite suspects involved in a recent anthem error should they violated the city’s laws.
Her comments came after a protest anthem written during the city's 2019 social unrest was played instead of the Chinese national anthem during a Rugby Sevens tournament in South Korea.

Speaking on a radio program on Tuesday, Ip said playing the protest anthem may constitute an offense of incitement to secession under the city’s national security law.
The former security chief said the police force should investigate if anyone in Hong Kong has colluded with South Korean personnel in sending them the protest anthem to insult the Chinese national anthem or commit acts of secession.
She said Hong Kong has operating extradition agreements with South Korea, which the city’s police force should request the assistance of South Korean authorities to help apprehend any suspects that violated the Hong Kong national security law, and extradite them from the country to undergo trial back in Hong Kong.
