Royal Caribbean cancels Friday cruise-to-nowhere sail

Royal Caribbean International has announced the cancellation of their four-night trip on the Spectrum of the Seas that was set to depart on Friday.

It said the move came as a prudent response to ensure the safety of their guests. All impacted guests will receive a full refund of their paid cruise fare and any pre-cruise purchases.

“Guests currently booked on any sailing from now through November 11 who wish to cancel can also receive a full refund,” an official statement wrote.

Meanwhile, the cruise company called on authorities to reconsider the 21-day suspension, following the negative test results of all Spectrum’s crew, including the one crew member who had originally tested repositive and triggered the suspension.

“If this suspension is confirmed, Royal Caribbean International will promptly communicate any disruptions to upcoming cruises to our guests and travel partners,” the company said.

Health officials had earlier ordered Royal Caribbean to suspend voyages on its Spectrum of the Seas liner until November 11, after a 40-year-old crew member was classified as a “repositive case” last week following Covid-19 testing.
