Police raided a private open-air parking lot in Tung Chung on Wednesday, seizing seven speedboats suspected to be used for smuggling.

Officers arrested a 17-year-old who was in charge of the parking lot.

Chief Inspector Yu Pok-hon said the police received intelligence that speedboats used for smuggling were hidden at the parking lot.

The parking lot was 15,000 square feet, and had an office that was formed by ten containers.

In an operation at 11am on Wednesday, police seized seven modified speedboats and 12 outboard engines, with a market value of about HK$5 million.

The seven speedboats were 8 to 13 meters long. Two were equipped with 400 horsepower outboard engines, which can go 50 nautical miles per hour.

Eight uninstalled outboard engines with 150 to 400 horsepower were also found at the site.

The 17-year-old in charge was arrested for building vessels for smuggling. He is detained for investigation.
