Quarantine hotel rooms to increase to 12,000 by Christmas

Quarantine hotel rooms will increase to 12,000 from 10,000 ahead of the Christmas holiday, a hotelier estimated.

The latest designated quarantine hotels scheme will expire at the end of next month. Michael Li Hon-shing, executive director of the Federation of Hong Kong Hotel Owners, said the federation has been in discussion with the government about the next round of the scheme.

“Most hotels (joining the scheme) will be four-stars or lower, as people prefer middle-priced hotels,” he said in a TV interview on Tuesday.

Sources said more low and middle-priced hotels will become quarantine hotels starting December, as more Hongkongers, including overseas students, will return to the city for Christmas and Lunar New Year holidays.
