The Hong Kong police are investigating the death of a man who was found inside a North Point hotel room with a knife in his chest on Sunday afternoon.

According to a police spokesman, the man was a 66-year-old retired businessman who rented the room at the Harbour Grand from April this year, with a lease running until December.

The man’s family members contacted the hotel after failing to reach the man from Saturday and asked hotel staff to check on him. The spokesman said there was no response when hotel staff knocked on the door. They then entered the room with a backup key and found the man lying in the room with a 30-centimeter-long knife lodged in his chest.

A preliminary investigation also found knife wounds on his neck. Two knives were seized at the scene

Police said they believe the man had been dead for a day before his body was found, and that there were also no signs of foul play. The spokesman added that hotel surveillance camera footage showed the man last returned to his room on Friday afternoon, with no one accessing his room afterward.

The case has been listed as dead body found for now.
