Woman hit by garbage truck lost a leg

An 88-year-old woman was hit and allegedly rolled over by a garbage truck in Lam Tin this afternoon, causing her to lose one of her legs.

The incident took place around 2.40pm. A garbage truck, heading to Tseung Kwan O on Kai Tin Road, hit and allegedly rolled over the elder, surnamed Chow, who was crossing a road outside Kai Tin Shopping Centre.

The elder lied on ground after the hit and bled profusely. Her head and legs were wounded. Witnesses at the scene even saw one of the elder's legs cut off, leaving pools of blood on the road.

Pedestrians immediately reported the incident and police officers and medics soon arrived. They found the elder unconscious and rushed her to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Police cordoned off the scene and arrested the 63-year-old male driver surnamed Lau for causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving.

The driver was remanded for questioning.
