Four members of a student group were arrested after setting up a street counter in Mong Kok this afternoon, as well as a man with an imitation firearm.

Convener of Student Politicism Wong Yat-chin, the group’s secretary-general Chan Chi-sum and a female volunteer were arrested for distributing seditious publications around 5.30pm today.

The group later said its spokesperson Wong Yuen-lam was also arrested near an MTR entrance.

In a Facebook post today, the police said officers spotted two males and one female distributing leaflets which were suspected to be seditious while patrolling in Mongkok.

According to the Crimes Ordinance, any person who distributes seditious publication could be fined up to HK$5,000 and jailed for two years, the police reminded.

Separately, a man was arrested for carrying an imitation firearm in Causeway Bay at 3pm.

“The police express condemnation against possession of imitation firearms as it poses a serious threat to public safety,” the force said, adding they have “zero tolerance” towards any illegal acts and will take enforcement action accordingly.
