The Fire Service Department wants to help save lives by telling citizens where they can find automated external defibrillators when they run into victims of sudden cardiac arrest.
Under the “AED Anywhere for Anyone” program, the portable devices have been installed outside over 100 fire stations and ambulance depots for public emergency use since May this year. The department has also put AED signs on over 600 of its vehicles that have them to help spread the message.
The department has launched an online platform named “Centralised AED Registry for Emergency”, which provides the location, quantities and available times on over 900 AEDs placed throughout Hong Kong.
The public can access the website through computers and mobile devices without needing to download any apps or prior registration.
