Hong Kong Baptist University has been awarded the service deed for operation of the Chinese Medicine Hospital in Tseung Kwan O.

The hospital will be the first Chinese medicine hospital in the city and it is expected to commence service in the mid 2025. It will be built on Wam Po Road in Tseung Kwan O, near the Fire and Ambulance Services Academy.

It will offer pure Chinese medicine services, services with Chinese medicine playing the predominant role and integrated Chinese-Western medicine services.

Alexander Wai Ping-kong, president of the university, hoped the hospital could respond to the citizens' demand for Chinese medicine services and expected it to become the headquarter for simulation-based medical training and scientific research in Hong Kong.

The Food and Health Bureau said the university, as the contractor of operation, shall incorporate a company limited by the operator to manage, operate and maintain the Chinese Medicine Hospital.

The operator shall obtain a license pursuant to the Private Healthcare Facilities Ordinance for the hospital's operation, the bureau added.

Prequalification exercise of the first stage of tendering for operation of the hospital and the second stage of tendering have been launched in September 2019 and September 2020 respectively, according to the bureau.

Upon the completion of tender assessment conducted in accordance with the selection criteria and marking scheme as set out in the tender documents, Baptist University was eventually selected as the contractor for the service deed, the bureau said.
