The Hospital Authority announced today that it had filed a report to the police over an incident of suspected cancellation of a General Out-patient Clinic appointment by a third party without the patient's authorization.

The authority said they have received a report from the Yuen Long Jockey Club Health Centre last Saturday that a patient's appointment was found to have been canceled by a third party through their telephone system.

Records later revealed that the cancellation of the appointment was not made by the phone number associated with the patient.

It was also discovered that the same telephone number had made repeated attempts to access the system in the past, but was unable to provide correct information for identity verification, with no other patient’s appointment having been changed.

The authority said it will review the telephone system.

“Any telephone numbers with suspicious repeated access to the system may be temporarily blocked, alongside other control measures to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents,” said a spokesman of the authority.

“Patients should also avoid providing personal information to unfamiliar people at all times,” the spokesman added.
