A double decker bus came close to hitting the driver of Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po, when he opened the car door and stood on a traffic lane in Mong Kok to pick up Chan.

The office of the financial chief later said that Chan and his colleagues attended a campaign nearby Fa Yuen Street and it has reminded the driver to stay alert to road situations and to follow relevant traffic rules.

The incident took place in the afternoon yesterday. Chan and lawmaker Vincent Cheng wing-shun were in a campaign in Mong Kok to promote the electronic vouchers.

However an incident almost took place when the driver for Chan was picking him up as Chan was about to leave.

According to dashcam footage online, a black private car with the license plate “FS” was traveling along Prince Edward Road West in Mong Kok.

The car stopped on the busy road in front of a green light, with the driver exiting the vehicle. The driver then stood on the next traffic lane opening the door of the backseat.

A double decker bus, which was on that lane, almost hit Chan's driver, if not for the bus driver who applied a hard brake to avoid any collision.

Chan and his colleagues then got into the car and left the scene, while the bus driver let them go first.
