Stephen Chow Sau-yan, supervisor of Wah Yan College, has been appointed the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong.

Chow, 62, was born in Hong Kong in 1959 and was ordained a priest in 1994. He also holds a Doctorate in Education from Harvard University.

Chow currently is Provincial Superior of the Jesuit Chinese Province and Supervisor of Wah Yan College (Hong Kong and Kowloon).

The Catholic Diocese said the episcopal consecration of Chow will be postponed to December 4 with details to be announced later. The Society of Jesus will also appoint a new Provincial Superior for the Chinese Province.

The diocese added that Cardinal John Tong, currently Apostolic Administrator, will continue to be the head of the Catholic Diocese in compliance with Church Law, until Chow has officially taken office at the Cathedral.

There will be a press conference tomorrow at 10am at the Catholic Diocese Center and Chow will meet with the media.
