URA deploys another 50 staffers for land resumption in Yue Man SquareLocal | 12 May 2021 1:00 pm
The Urban Renewal Authority today deploys some 50 staffers to Yue Man Square in Kwun Tong to carry out an eviction order at one of the two remaining stores in the area.
The authority early this month sent up to 100 staffers to Yue Man Square to carry out another court order to evict a shop tenant, where the shop owner was carried away by the URA staffers.
The owner was said to have chained himself to his stall in protest overnight, not satisfied with the compensation package offered by the authority.
Officials today cordoned off one of the two remaining stores in Yue Man Square - On Kee Leather Goods, and cleared the shop accompanied by a bailiff.
Living in Kwun Tong, a community group that focuses on conservation issues in the district, said the negotiations between the shop owner of On Kee Leather Goods and the URA broke down yesterday night, and the owner has returned to the shop to pack up and leave overnight.
