Police are searching for an animal abuser after two dogs were splashed with boiling water.

A 63-year-old man, Lau, called the police Wednesday night, saying the backs and necks of his two mongrels had turned red and swollen.

Police and officers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals arrived in Kong Tau Tsuen, Yuen Long, to find that the dogs -- a mother and daughter -- had sustained burns.

The daughter's back wound was already festering, while the mother’s wound had maggots. It is assumed that hot water was splashed on the pair.

Both dogs have been collected by SPCA inspectors and sent to its Wan Chai Headquarters for inspection.

The dog owner said he tried to help the dogs, but failed and thus called the police. The case has been classified as cruelty to animals and is being investigated by the Yuen Long criminal investigation department.
