Over 500,000 residents receive Covid-19 vaccine, says Carrie Lam

Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said Thursday that over 500,000 residents had received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of Wednesday, but stressed the number is not ideal.

The Hong Kong leader said she is puzzled over the slow take-up rate of the city’s Covid-19 vaccination program.

Lam called on members of the public to cooperate and participate in the campaign, adding that the authorities welcome all sorts of suggestions and opinions that could help shoot up the vaccination rate.

“The government had proposed that practitioners from certain industries may be exempted from regular Covid testing after getting the jab, but it seems these incentives are not appealing enough,” she said.

Lam also added that the government will continue to campaign for foreign countries to recognize the vaccines being administered in Hong Kong.
