The Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong will launch a course to train political talents to run Hong Kong, with guest speakers to include former legco president Jasper Tsang and former CE Leung Chun-ying.

Vice chairman Gary Chan Hak-kin said that the course aims to discover more talents and encourage them to be more involved in serving the public. The course will also focus more on management training and topics on China and her global positioning, and Hong Kong future development.

The politician then said the course is open to the public and even to pro-democrats, only if they fulfill the requirement of “Love China, Love Hong Kong”.

The course will include a series of lectures and field studies. Scholars and government officials from both Hong Kong and mainland will be invited as instructors and speakers, including Maria Tam Wai-chu, deputy director of the Basic Law Committee.

According to Chan, they would also like to invite Wang Zhenmin, the former legal head of the Liaison Office of China. The list is yet to be confirmed, Chan said, due to the pandemic.

When asked about rumors that Beijing may make modifications to the Hong Kong electoral system, Chan showed faith in the party, saying that they are always prepared.

He also believed that any systemic changes in the district council election will not cast great impact on his colleague Starry Lee.

The course opens registration on March 15 and will begin in the second half of this year.
