Suspected Covid outbreak at Mong Kok mall

Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the Centre for Health Protection's Communicable Disease Branch, said a tenant at Sin Tat Plaza in Mong Kok - a mall that focuses on the sales of mobile phones and related services - has contracted the coronavirus.

Chuang said the patient is among the 11 untraceable local infections in the city today.

The tenant was said to have worked alongside one of his family members, which was also tested preliminary positive for the virus, along with another tenant whose store is right next to them.

“If more unrelated cases are to be found present in the plaza, it might indicate the presence of a hidden transmission chain, where the mall would be issued a mandatory testing order,” Chuang added.
