Hong Kong Airport Authority is planning to introduce an autonomous transportation system.

Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong Fred Lam Tin-fuk said the autonomous transportation system connects SKYCITY in the airport and Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities Island of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge to Tung Chung town centre.

The system will be able to strengthen the transportation capacity, Lam said it can serve 5000 people per hour and is expected to be completed in 2027 to 2028.

The Airport Authority is also planning to set up two automated car parks on the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities Island that will provide around 6,000 parking spaces in phases.

The “Park and Fly” and “Park and Visit” automated car parks will cater to air transfer passengers and visitors respectively.

Lam added the reclamation project of the Three-runways System will be completed this month and the entire system will operate in 2024. The project will be completed within the budget of HK$141.5 billion.
