"Shanghai Boy” arrested after absconding for over 2.5 years

Alleged triad boss "Shanghai Boy", was in police custody today after being arrested at the airport on Sunday night upon his arrival.

Kwok Wing-hung, 62, who is known as "Shanghai Boy" was arrested by the police in 2017 for allegedly laundering more than HK$100 million, but he allegedly went on the run for more than two and a half years.

He returned to the city from Europe via Dubai and Bangkok before arriving in Hong Kong at 6pm yesterday.

A police spokesman said Kwok is currently being detained on suspicion of defamation, conspiracy to wound and conspiracy to commit criminal damage.

Officers from the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau said they made the arrest after receiving intelligence, the man is now being detained for investigation.

Given Kwok has been to Europe, where the pandemic has hit hard. Kwok has been tested before being escorted to the police station.
