Pan-dem lawmakers announce resignation en masse

The 15 remaining pro-democracy members of LegCo have announced their resignation, fulfilling their pledge on quiting the legislature if Beijing ousted any members of their camp.

The decision was made hours after the Hong Kong government has announced the immediate disqualification of four of their fellows, including Alvin Yeung Ngok-kiu, Dennis Kwok Wing-hang, Kwok Ka-ki, and Kenneth Leung Kai-cheong.

Convener of the pan-democratic camp, Wu Chi-wai said the National People's Congress Standing Committee’s decision is "extremely ridiculous", saying the central government has abandoned the Basic Law, neglecting Hong Kong’s “one country, two system”.

“Beijing has intended to make the LegCo an echo chamber, where no opposition could be tolerated. This is seriously undermining Hong Kong’s core values,” Wu added.
