Hospital Authority workers fear infection from Kowloon Bay virus testing venue

The Hospital Authority Employees Alliance said it opposes the coronavirus testing center in the Kowloon Bay International Trade & Exhibition Centre (KITEC), as the authority’s office is located there.

The testing centre is at the Star Hall on the third floor of the centre, the alliance chairwoman, Winnie Yu wai-ming, said.

Yu said she is extremely disappointed that the HA did not try its best to protect its employees as she was informed about the news yesterday’s afternoon in an internal email.

She urged KITEC to explain its decision and questioned if its property management team has consulted tenants, including the HA.

KITEC told Yu through an email that several measures will be taken, including sealing off the outer area of Star Hall. Public spaces will be cleaned and disinfected often.

However, Yu said KITEC did not explain its arrangements for people who have finished the coronavirus test.

“Will they have to leave the venue immediately, or are participants who finished testing allowed to dine-in at restaurants in the KITEC mall?” Yu said.

Yu is also worried that setting up a testing center at KITEC will increase the risk of cross-contamination in the venue and shuttle buses.

The government will begin mass testing next Tuesday.
