Hong Kong has reported double-digit increase in daily confirmed coronavirus cases for the second consecutive day today.

Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan of the Centre for Health Protection said there have been 80 additional confirmed cases as at midnight, taking the tally to 3,670, which includes one probable case.

Five are imported and the rest are locally infected. Among the 75 local cases, 43 are linked to previous cases and source of infection for 32 others are still unknown.

There are also 50 initial positive cases.

Chuang said although there have been less than 100 single day cases for two straight days, it is still difficult to judge whether the epidemic situation has already eased.

She also noted that there are relatively fewer cases on Mondays and Tuesdays compared to the rest of the week.

The Hospital Authority said the death toll climbed to 41 after a confirmed patient passed away this afternoon. There are so far 2,141 recoveries after 104 more patients were discharged.

Among the 1,298 confirmed patients staying in public hospitals, Lei Yue Mun Park and Holiday Village and Community Treatment Facility in the AsiaWorld-Expo, 43 are critical, 52 are serious and the rest are stable, said Chief Manager of Quality and Standards, Dr Lau Ka-hin.

The occupancy rate of negative pressure beds and wards are 77 percent and 79 percent, respectively.
