Hong Kong has confirmed at least 20 more coronavirus cases today, according to a medical source, as the city saw a sudden spike of new infections this week.

Most of the new cases reported today are domestic infections, including a staffer working at a laboratory of the University of Science and Technology (UST) and three patients from an infection cluster in Good Hope School in Ngau Chi Wan.

Sources said the laboratory is located on the 6th floor of Cheng Yu Tung Building on the university's campus at Clear Water Bay. It is learned that the university has closed and disinfected the area, quarantine measures have also been adopted to other staffers of the laboratory.

Media reported that two more form 1 students and another parent of Good Hope School have tested positive with the virus, after one of their 13-year-old students had fallen ill yesterday.

The student (the 1375th case) lives The Wings I in Tseung Kwan O and developed a fever and other flu-like symptoms on July 7. She is now hospitalized in Tuen Mun Hospital.

Health officials said she had been to school the day she fell sick, and have seven close contacts.
The school has arranged virus testing in phases for all of their students today.

Hong Kong has recorded a total of 38 Covid-19 cases yesterday, of which 32 were locally transmitted. The total tally is now 1,404, including a probable one and seven deaths.
