The police said today they have arrested five males and two females on suspicion of assisting an offender in the police officer stabbing case during protests in Causeway Bay on July 1.

At about 4:00pm that day, riot police officers were making arrests on Causeway Road near Hing Fat Street, and an officer was allegedly stabbed in the arm by a 24-year-old civil engineer.

The officer was sent to Ruttonjee Hospital and then transferred to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital.

The suspect fled after the incident, but he was arrested on board a Cathay Pacific plane about to take off for London just before midnight on July 2.

He was charged with wounding with intent and had been remanded in custody after appearing in court.
