Lee Ka-chiu says unit taking shape to enforce new law

The Secretary for Security, John Lee Ka-chiu, said today, the Security Bureau is establishing an enforcement mechanism for effectively safeguarding national security.

The dedicated unit being set up in the Hong Kong Police Force will be equipped with effective enforcement power to discharge the enforcement duties under the national security law, he said in a statement.

The other five disciplinary forces will also fully assist in their respective professional areas in collaboration with the police in carrying out work in safeguarding national security, Lee said.

Lee, together with the heads of six disciplined services departments, welcomed the naional security law, the statement said.

The six heads of disciplined services departments are, Police Commissioner, Tang Ping-keung; the Customs and Excise Commissioner, Hermes Tang; the Correctional Services Commissioner, Woo Ying-ming; the Director of Fire Services, Joseph Leung; the Director of Immigration, Au Ka-wang; and the Controller of the Government Flying Service, Captain Wu Wai-hung.

They all pledged full support for the effective implementation of the law in Hong Kong.

Lee said that he and all disciplinary forces will render full support to the implementation of the national security law.
