The Department of Health said today a 51-year-old man, has been sentenced to immediate imprisonment for four weeks by the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today for breaching compulsory quarantine order.

He left the place of quarantine without reasonable excuse nor permission given by an authorized officer before the expiry of the quarantine order, and was stopped by staff of the Immigration Department at a border control point on March 25.

A DH spokesman said the sentence sends a clear message to the community that breaching a quarantine order is a criminal offense and that the government will not tolerate such actions.
