Members of the Hong Kong delegation to the two sessions and a scholar hailed the move by central authorities to introduce national security legislation in Hong Kong.

They says it is "highly necessary." and  believe Hong Kong residents will benefit from the new law, as it targets separatists and foreign intervention, and upholds the "one country, two systems" principle.

NPC Standing Committee member, Tam Yiu-chung said: "The bill is a response to a spate of activities in Hong Kong aimed at undermining the 'one country, two systems,' principle. Once Hong Kong  becomes a weak link in national security, its own interests will suffer.''
