The Legislative Council's House Committee meeting got off to a stormy start with several pan-democratic lawmakers surrounding Starry Lee Wa-king, who was presiding, and trying to stall the proceedings, RTHK reports.
The opposition lawmakers chanted slogans over Beijing’s move to enact national security laws in Hong Kong and held up placards protesting against the central government's decision.
The lawmakers refused to return to their seats despite requests and continued with their chants.
They chanted slogans like “Hongkongers revolt, national security laws are coming to Hong Kong!” and “Hong Kong will become Xinjiang.”
Legco security staff were asked to remove the lawmakers and some of them were carried out before the meeting was suspended.
Chu Hoi-dick, Wu Chi-wai, Ray Chan and Andrew Wan were among those ejected before the suspension.
