The Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po believes most residents will get the HK$10,000 payout by end August and registration will begin next month.

He was speaking after the budget was passed by lawmakers today.

“First and foremost, our task is to have the various measures in the budget as well as in the two rounds of Anti-epidemic Fund, to be implemented as soon as possible. I believe when those measures are implemented, their effect will be better felt by the community. As to the timing for the distribution of the HK$10,000 to qualified Hong Kong permanent residents, our plan is to start registration towards the end of June, start the payment in July, and we believe most of the eligible individuals will be able to get their payments by the end of August.''

Lawmakers passed the appropriation bill by 42 votes to 23 votes, with one abstention.
